Weekend Rambling…

Monday, January 26th, 2009

So we went roaming last Saturday again, as usual, and hubby took me to Salmiya. We really didn’t do anything but go straight to this food-court thingie over there to have our brunch (sorta) since we both woke up very late. And then after that we went to Sultan Centre to see if there are any new stuff that we might be interested in…

We went to Eureka too and we saw that they were selling Wii consoles for 99KD (it costs 120KD in other electronic shops). Of course we didn’t buy one even though hubby told me that we could if I really want it (he actually prefers to buy an xbox 360 or ps3 if ever we’d buy another gaming console) but I said no. Even though I want it so bad, 99KD is still a lot of money and I told him I’d feel guilty.

We went straight to Kuwait City instead of home after Salmiya and went to Alghanim Electronics over there to drool on ‘em game consoles. Of course hubby was more interested in PDAs and he started bugging me about buying me a one (he wanted to buy me one for Christmas). And so we went home with this:

An HTC Touch Cruise. The bugger is actually happier than me…

Strange things for sale in the internet

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

Except for web and domain hosting services, I haven’t really purchased anything online as yet. Not because I am paranoid about the security issues of buying things using the internet, it is just that I have not found any reason why I should. For some, shopping online is convenient and the variety of products and services is really almost infinite (small business for sale too) but then again, I’m currently living in the country where HUGE SHIPPING FEES will always be an issue if ever I want to buy something from a reputable e-Store. Of course, this never stopped me from surfing around AMAZON, Buy.Com and of course, eBay…the king of online auctions—and boy did I see ‘em weird things being sold over there! Let me give you some examples:

1. Scottish Title and Land

2. Wiccan Lost Spells and Potion recipes

3. Mutilated Barbie

4. Real Tsansa shrunken head without human skull

5. Bullshit repellent

6. a genuine antique hobo whiskey bottle

7. Four leaf clover

8. Some animal’s skeletons

9. A Serial Killer’s Fingernails

10. A weird tree branch

Thinking of transfering to a new host…

Monday, September 15th, 2008

Having suffered from frequent downtimes and constant database connectivity issues, I am playing around with the idea of transferring to another webhost. I’ve been checking out webhosting review sites and I STILL HAVE TO FIND A DECENT WEBHOST THAT WOULD NOT CONSTANTLY CRAP UP ON ME.

I work in a company the offers web-related services and I know that there is no such thing as 100% uptime… but crapping up on me almost everyday is just not acceptable.

Can anybody recommend any decent webhost?

Free websites. Moody boss. Good News, Bad News.

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008

For those people who would want their own website using a domain of your choice for free… just go to http://www.hyperwebenable.com/. Hyperwebenable offers:

1. Free website of your choice (yoursitename.com).
2. 1GB of webspace to host your website.
3. Unlimited bandwidth.
4. Unlimited emails (info@yoursitename.com,contact@yoursitename.com).
5. Scripts of your choice(Blog,CMS,Forum ..).
6. Technical support by email for your website.
7. Tips & tricks to improve your page rank and traffic.
I have tried it myself and it’s true. I got http://carelesswanderer.com/ as my domain and had requested a wordpress script uploaded there. Only thing is you cannot access your site by FTP but they will install the scripts of your choice if you want to :) . They will also put Ad Scripts on your site…so if you don’t like ads that are not put by you…well…don’t go for it.

Boss checked the punch-cards today and he saw a lot of people coming very late for work (like 40-50mins) late so he added 30mins more to our working hours. BOO! This is effective starting tomorrow it seems and if people keeps on coming late after 2 days then he will add another 30mins. We were all like, “WTF???!!!”

According to Arab Times, expatriates who have expired residential permits (staying illegally) can leave the country without being blacklisted or banned from coming back to Kuwait if they leave between Sept 1 until Oct 15 of this year. After this period, the government will start “hunting down” expats that do not have valid residencial papers. I guess there would be more of ‘em policemen checking the people’s civil Id’s on the streets. Pfft.

Hubby and poor Laptop

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

This is our new ACER 6920G Notebook. I named her “Alizarin” but I only call her that name when I’m alone with her. Hubby has no idea that her name is Alizarin…nor does he knows that Alizarin is a “she”. All he knows (aside from the fact that he married a weirdo—that, too, is another topic) is that this hawtie piece of numminess which used to be our dream-pc had become HIS pc-nightmare.

First he discovered that the only way he can connect Alizarin to his TV is through HDMI connection, other pieces of the same model has a VGA out but Alizarin dun have one (Minus 1 point). HDMI Cable was not included in the package (Minus 1 point) and it is quite difficult to find in the market (Minus 1 point). Of course NOT ALL TVs support HDMI connectivity (Minus 1 point). And then, the DVD-Super Multi double-layer drive is constantly giving problems whenever we tried burning a downloaded avi movie (Minus a whopping 1,000,000 points). I told him that it’s probably that we got a defective piece. But he had already cursed it (and the whole ACER company) after concluding that we were duped by the sexy appearance, that Alizarin is trash and that we would have bought that other HP laptop.

Personally, I still think that poor Alizarin is hawt and she was just misunderstood. I still like her and aside from the DVD-burning problem, the functionalities are awesome. It’s got a 250GB HD, 4GB RAM, 2nd Generation Dolby Home Theater audio enhancement, surround sound output, andddddd a nummie NVIDIA® GeForce® 9500M GS with up to 1280 MB of TurboCache™  (512 MB of dedicated GDDR2 VRAM) Graphics Card (AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME!!!).

We’ll be taking her to a service center one of these days (when we’re free) and see if the DVD-burning issue can be fixed. i do hope it gets fixed coz I feel so bad about poor Alizarin.
